Old Hollywood in New Hollywood

by Caroline B. Ucci

This is a documentary shot over 3 years in celebrity events in London.

It’s true that “the red carpet” has always been a very glamorous ritual amongst those of fame and fortune, but digital cameras, the media and the ferocious search from the “consumers” of this media - the public - has taken away the quality of the documentation of these events, making them ordinary photographs in which every press photographer not only captures a similar image to their colleagues, but forgets about the whole atmosphere and celebration of the event in search of the “perfect” head shot, “outfit shot” or something polemic that would make a good picture to be sold.

In this work I tried to rescue that old hollywood glamour feel and keep the cinematic of this magic cinema world.

Every picture was shot amongst the crowd, mostly with no Flash and only 1 prime lens, a Canon 85mm 1.8. Processed to black and white on photoshop.

Just because they are black and white doesn’t make them less ‘paparazzi’ than the paparazzi. To my way of thinking, ‘Hollywood Glamour’ is stretch limos, sunshine, yachts, california, casinos, monte carlo, sparkling pools - you get my idea. Not rainy London.

  14. I welcome all critiques and compliments. Though sometimes, specially in a competition, just not to make it seem like your just pointing out faults in everyone’s work to the judges to benefit your own, it’s good to give compliments to the ones you liked it, too. Also, it;s nice to know the work of people who are criticizing just to see if it’s worthy taking into account…
