Smiles from nowhere
by Arnold Manillier
Series of portraits
The project was born of a long initial contact with the Guaraní's community leaders.
After a one-month journey across the country, the photographs have been made within the community of Ibasiriri.
25 Guaranis communities, approximately 9000 persons live along of the river Parapetí in the region of Isoso in the northeast of Bolivia. Being situated in the south of Santa Cruz and its province, this region is completely isolated and anbandoned by the governmental authorities more preocupated by the current political and social tensions; engendered by the referendum for the autonomy of the province of Santa Cruz , the oil quarrels and the riots of the producers of coca (coca extract).
In spite of its important surface, 2 millions hectares, this territory is indicated on the official maps only as a vast desert space devoid of information of villages and of some presence of communities.
Of more the acces to this region is difficult of the rarity of transport and states of tracks.
I still remember the feed back of different photographers/friends on this series.
Out of all Arnolds’s photograph series these portraits never get me bored.
A definite vote for you my friend…You own it.
Esta foto esta exelente, pese a las incomodidades la niña tiene gasnas de estudiar
Arnold registra rostros cálidos, de un sitio en donde el consumo aun no los consume…..
Esperanzadora idea de una inocencia sin nintendo ni computadoras…
Conmovedoras…
Impresiona por la candidez de los rostros
Really you have very much talent!
Really nice illustration of what travel is for me…getting out of a routine and try to catch it in someone’s eyes … really good job!!
