MASK
by Andrea Stultiens
After buying a few boxes with glass plate negatives by an unknown Dutch photographer, beautiful drawings, once meant to enhance the portraits, were discovered on the plates. The carefully applied retouche turns out to have it's own qualities.
By photographing the glass plates again, the physical basis of pre-digital photography is addressed. At the same time the way in which photographs have always been telling their own truth, sometimes helped a bit more by the photographer than other times, is visualized.
The series is authored now by Andrea Stultiens, but of course the anonymous photographer should be honoured for his work!
I like this very much!
