Vanessa Leißring’s work entitled “Petrol Stations” focuses on architecture/sculpture in open spaces. The documentary style views address the relationship between functional architecture and the formal aesthetic.
When darkness falls, Vanessa Leißring is on the search for places that never sleep: the petrol station. In a typological work process, she photographs various petrol stations by night and edits them, to present the huge structures as if they were floating in time and space. The lonesome neon supplying facilities stick out on the optical black stage of the night. The night stations appear almost surreal in the image format. For a moment, space and function seem detached, until the sculptures are awoken from people turning the objects back into functional places.
