River Boys

by Che Chapman

The River Boys live on the outskirts of a village in the Northern Region of Ghana in West Africa. They come from families who cannot afford schooling and often go hungry. The boys spend their days hunting small animals, fishing and collecting sticks for the family to cook with. At the end of each day the boys all come to the bridge along the road to the village, drop their tools and spend the afternoon playing in the muddy water.

they’re beautiful che. Nesta was with me looking at them and was asking questions, ‘Is there war in that country?’ I read your words to him and explained their life and their idea of play, and that they don’t have all of this stuff that he wants that kids at kindy have. By the look on his face he was totally taking it in. Maybe this is part of your intention, to expose this?
    Nice work….
