THE NAKED CITY
by Gary Breckheimer
I strive to make my work unique,” says New York photographer Gary Breckheimer “I want to tell a story, that is not immediately obvious. Rather, I consciously incorporate and capture paradoxes to provide that element of the unexpected, to awaken that possibility or moment that so many people are too busy to notice or consider, particularly in New York. I capture these stories a frame at a time. I want to leave my story open to interpretation; thus, the overtones of solitude yet erotica found in my photos encourage further contemplation.” Certainly, he has a version to his story, yet his intention is to allow viewers to arrive at their own conclusions. Furthermore, he stated that “ideally my aim is that my photos appeal to a vast audience who, for various reasons, are drawn back for deeper consideration ” .
“I am constantly viewing my day to day environment, whether it be the graffiti covered mailboxes in front of the Channel store or the taxi stand at Grand Central Station, thinking of the possible stories I can tell. My intent is to allow viewers to contemplate the relationship of man, or as always in my case, woman in her environment.”
