URBAN EROSION

by Fabio Okamoto

Generally, my work deals with the image of the cities. In the series “Urban Erosion” I present some urban scenes that try to evoke some aspects of painting in photography.

The problem of depicting is crucial in this essay. With Urban Erosion I intend to work with the idea of painting, searching for two dimensional images, textures, graphic forms and abstract themes. The elimination of the sense of reality is important to question the photographic media and to provoke the audience with such familiar subjects.

In the city, I am always looking for this issues in public spaces, ruins, abandoned outdoor, places where no human live can be found. In these empty areas I look for spots, like rest of publicity, broken architectural details, old containers, etc. To certain extent, theses subjects are considered for the majority as ugly and dirty. I just try to invert this meaning, transforming such a disgusting place into relevant images.
