Grand Hotel Tevere, Idroscalo di Ostia

by Alessandro Serranò

The “Idroscalo” (waterstation) of Ostia was done in 1926 as airport for seaplane for the city of Rome and just in July 1933 the “Idroscalo” (waterstation) welcomes the arrival of Italo Balbo from the transatlantic flight from USA.In 1975 the “Idroscalo” (waterstation) is again protagonist of the headlines when the dead body of PierPaolo Pasolini is found there and since that day nothing has changed and the people living in the area remain watching this piece of land between the Tiber river and the Tyrrhenian sea.The winter and the river tides make life almost impossible to residents of the area having to deal with floods.Just these past days the Roman administration is taking care of the many families leaving in the area moving them away to different districts.
