Progress and Impermanence
Where one sees progress, the other sees impermanence. Tibet Today is a story of economic progress and changing Tibetan life.
The Idea of Progress is the theory that advances in technology, science, and social organization inevitably produce an improvement in the human condition. That is, people can become happier in terms of quality of life through economic development, and the application of science and technology.
Impermanence expresses the Buddhist notion that all things and experiences are inconstant, unsteady, and impermanent. Everything is in constant flux, things are constantly coming into being, and ceasing to be. Since nothing lasts, there is no inherent or fixed nature to any object or experience.

Beautiful, beautiful pictures!!!
Images you never see in the ‘regular’ media and that are not in the collective conscience as is the romantic Tibetan cliche.
The 2 worlds ancient and modern in collision(?), in an encounter(?), just touching eachother or overlapping eachother(?), fighting over their territories(?) or slowly merging together(?) … I guess all perspectives are true, depending on who is looking.

The old Tibet, the new Tibet both different worlds in the same place, nicely shown as one to bring home the differences without destroying the whole! keep up the good work bringing such important views to us all!
Marieke is able to dig deeper in to the subject, far passing the traditional images, the cliches and the “vanishing” documentaries. Tibet Today combines intimacy, strong images and variety into an excellent document of Tibet in our times.
